Habits of Happy People

Happiness is something that is not truly defined, but somehow, it is something everyone strives for. We are all in the “pursuit of happiness.” I personally think that happiness can't be achieved from money or possessions. I believe that happiness is found within our  attitude and how we react to life. These are just some habits that I came up with that I think the happiest people practice.

Practice Gratitude

Take time to be grateful for the things that you already have. It sounds simple, but just focusing on the little things in your life that bring you joy is a simple way to change your perspective.  For me, I'm grateful for the ability to exercise and move my body and movie nights with my boyfriend. I'm grateful for the sunshine and for days spent at the pool.

Stop Comparing Yourself

I'm a believer in the fact that social media can either add to your life or destroy your life. It's so easy to scroll through Instagram and see these perfect pictures. We idolize other girls on Instagram and Twitter, comparing ourselves and stalking them, hoping we’ll miraculously become them. Us girls can be a lot harder on ourselves than guys are. But when we compare what we "don't" have with what someone "does" have, we are robbed of our time and energy and our own happiness.  Instead, get to know your wants and your needs, and the ways to become the best YOU there can be.

Practice Kindness

Kindness promotes empathy and compassion; which in turn, leads to a sense of interconnectedness with others. Focusing on others instead of ourselves promotes good feelings instead of the negative ones. Random Acts of Kindness doesn't have to be going through the Starbucks drive through and paying for the person behind you (although from personal experience it is the best feeling when someone pays for your drink.) Simply holding the door for someone, or giving someone a genuine compliment are great ways to show kindness to others.

 Invest in People

Connecting with others is so important. Surrounding yourself with people who lift you up, encourage your passions and make time for you is vital to your own happiness. If you purposely pick friends that are positive, encouraging, and supportive you will find yourself giving out those exact same traits. Taking the time to invest in other's and pour into their lives is what leads to deeper communication and deeper connections. I don't know about you, but I thrive off of that.

Set More Goals

My last tip for being happier, is to set more goals. It sounds simple, but setting goals is such an effective way to give yourself something to focus on. You can set goals in all areas of life, whether that be fitness, diet, school, work or relationships. Feeling good about the future, and having a positive outlook, is an important factor in happiness. Goals are also a way that we can turn our dreams and our values into reality. Personally, setting fitness goals has been extremely motivating for me and is a great way to challenge myself to get out of my comfort zone.

These are just some of my personal tips for living a happier life, and I hope that you can apply some of them to your own life :)

Follow your Heart

I absolutely love the saying “Follow your heart.” In fact, this quote is in my Instagram bio, as a reminder to myself and to others. Throughout my life, when I’ve had to make difficult decisions, I’ve always come back to this saying. Call it intuition or a gut feeling, but typically in my life my “gut feelings” have always been right. Fear is scary. I mean, it  is fear. It’s an emotion stemming from uncontrollable stress and anxiety. As human beings, we have settled on running away from fear at any cost. But I’m here to tell you that we are not meant to live in fear, but to live along side it. . Does that sound crazy to you? Just hear me out. No matter how much running you do to try to escape your fear, it’ll always be right there behind you. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s inevitable. Fear is  a constant. Instead of losing your mind trying to escape the emotion, learning to accept it and live with it will lead to truly overcoming fear. ...

We Built Our First Home!! ♡

Hi everyone! Welcome back to my blog. It still feels so surreal to say Devin and I built our first home. WOW. In todays post I wanted to share a little bit about our building process and lessons we learned after building our house. Starting from the beginning, Devin and I originally looked around at houses we’d be interested in buying. All of the options near where we wanted to live were either way our of our price range, or way too much of a fixer upper than we were looking for.  We started to realize that finding a house was going to be harder than we anticipated.   Maybe we were being too picky, but we knew we both wanted to find someplace that we could see ourselves in for many years to come. We randomly found a lot for sale that was perfectly on the side of town we wanted to live, and we loved the homey feel of the neighborhood. We decided to go for it and signed the papers. One reason we felt good about building over buying was that we’d get to desi...

Gym Shark Review

Gym Shark is one of my new favorite workout brands that I am so excited to write about. I’ve always been a fan of Victoria’s Secret leggings, but found that they were not so great for working out or my budget.  I began hearing about the Gym Shark leggings and seeing people wearing them at the gym where I work, so I figured I’d give them a try.    I ordered a pair of the Fit leggings, which are all black with a black waistband. I was expecting the material of these leggings to be thicker like workout leggings usually are, but they are actually very breathable and thin but not see through. I love how these legging have a sticky lining on the waistband because this means they actually stay up while I run or lift. This is also helpful for holding my phone while I do lunges, so I can still listen to music. (the most important part of my workout routine.) The best part of these leggings I personally think is how they don’t have a crotch inseam, which i...
