how to stay healthy on vacation

Recently, I just returned from a week vacation in Florida with my fiance and my family. It was such a relaxing time, and it felt awesome to have a break from work and everyday life. I typically don't worry too much about sticking to my workout routine on vacations because I think it's healthy to rest every once in a while to prevent burnout.  But let’s be honest, vacations are where healthy habits go out the window. Late nights, eating out every day, missing your daily workout, midnight snacks…….. we can be quick to excuse our overindulgence because we are “enjoying ourselves” and “living in the moment." That is, until we return from our vacation feeling sick and in need of another vacation to recover from our last vacation. This can be especially unmotivating if you’re like me and are the type that loves daily routine, workouts and eating healthy. This doesn't always have to be the case though. Over the years I have discovered simple things to do where you can skip the post vacation blues but still enjoy yourself!

Stay Hydrated
It’s extremely important to stay hydrated while traveling whether you are on a long flight or out and about exploring. Buying bottled water can be expensive so I recommend bringing your own reusable water bottle. I personally do this because I can drink water wherever I go without worrying! I also love to pack Nuun tablets to help stay hydrated. I usually try to drink a tablet in my water whenever I fly because flying on a plane tends to be dehydrating.

 Sleep, Sleep, Sleep
Between jet lag, carrying heavy luggage, and long activity-packed days, your body can get exhausted while traveling. The worst thing you can do is not get enough sleep on top of all that. Although you might be tempted not to sleep much (so much to see and so much to do!) your body will thank you if you get enough sleep while traveling. Personally, I took extra time to catch up on sleep while in Florida and it was SO worth it.  By getting enough rest, you will have more energy and alertness during the day, and you can fully enjoy your vacation.

Don’t Skip Breakfast
Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day, so don’t skip out while you’re on vacation. You will feel much more energized and ready to take on your day if you eat breakfast. While we were in Florida, I took the opportunity to look up new places to eat breakfast and actually found an amazing smoothie bowl/juice shop! I definitely recommend trying some new restaurants, that you can't find back home. You can also buy things like instant oatmeal, granola bars, and fruit to prepare for yourself in your hotel room if you don’t want to spend money going out for breakfast.

Slow Down
Traveling too fast is a recipe for disaster. If your vacation consists of nonstop traveling, tours, and activities you will end up burnt out. Even worse, planning too many activities can leave you physically exhausted and you may end up sick.
Try to take some time each day to slow down and relax. Don’t feel like you need to pack in every single activity or see everything in a short amount of time on your trip – it isn’t worth getting burnt out or sacrificing your health!

Enjoy Yourself
Finally, my last tip is to take the time to enjoy your vacation! Eat foods that you normally wouldn't eat at home, and don't stress too much over "being healthy." Sometimes, it's beneficial to take a break from our day to day routine and go with the flow. Your workouts and healthy meals will still be there when you return! After all that's what vacation is for: taking the time to relax and refresh, and enjoy the time spent with loved ones.

Gym Shark Review

Gym Shark is one of my new favorite workout brands that I am so excited to write about. I’ve always been a fan of Victoria’s Secret leggings, but found that they were not so great for working out or my budget.  I began hearing about the Gym Shark leggings and seeing people wearing them at the gym where I work, so I figured I’d give them a try.    I ordered a pair of the Fit leggings, which are all black with a black waistband. I was expecting the material of these leggings to be thicker like workout leggings usually are, but they are actually very breathable and thin but not see through. I love how these legging have a sticky lining on the waistband because this means they actually stay up while I run or lift. This is also helpful for holding my phone while I do lunges, so I can still listen to music. (the most important part of my workout routine.) The best part of these leggings I personally think is how they don’t have a crotch inseam, which i...

Habits of Happy People

Happiness is something that is not truly defined, but somehow, it is something everyone strives for. We are all in the “pursuit of happiness.” I personally think that happiness can't be achieved from money or possessions. I believe that happiness is found within our  attitude and how we react to life. These are just some habits that I came up with that I think the happiest people practice. Practice Gratitude Take time to be grateful for the things that you already have. It sounds simple, but just focusing on the little things in your life that bring you joy is a simple way to change your perspective.  For me, I'm grateful for the ability to exercise and move my body and movie nights with my boyfriend. I'm grateful for the sunshine and for days spent at the pool.  Stop Comparing Yourself  I'm a believer in the fact that social media can either add to your life or destroy your life. It's so easy to scroll through Instagram and see these perfect picture...

2020 Feburary Obsessions

Hi guys, welcome back to my blog! Today I just thought I'd share all my favorites from the month of February! I've been discovering a ton of new items lately, and just wanted to share what I've been loving. I will have everything linked so you can check it out yourself, as well! TV Show: Castle Rock First, I want to mention the tv show castle rock. I'm a huge fan of horror movies but it's nice to take a break and watch a tv show when you don't have time for an entire movie. My boyfriend and I have been loving this show, it's about a small town and the murders that have happened there. I definitely recommend if you love thrillers! Behind Closed Doors book Next on the list, is the book Behind Closed Doors. Again, I'm clearly a fan of thrillers so this a great book to read if you want something that is going to creep you out. I am a fast reader so it normally takes me about a week to read a book, but this one was SO good I finished it...
